From passion “Du Cheval” was born my vocation…

 

 

 

 

Passionate about horse riding that I practiced from childhood, I was seduced by the saddler profession and at 16, I decided to devote myself to it. Leather is a living material that attracted me; I understood that beauty was born from her work.

 

In 1974, I joined the school of the Chamber of Commerce in rue de l'Abbé Grégoire, in Paris. In 1976, I obtained my CAP as a saddler and made my first steps at HERMÈS, in his prestigious saddle workshop at 24 rue du Faubourg St Honoré. It was there, with the Elders, that I really learned this trade. They taught me patience, thoroughness and a taste for a job well done. Thanks to them I have acquired in thirteen years a unique know-how: excellence in leather work. During this time, my own creativity was able to mature.

 

In 1989, I started to develop my own models and I set up as an independent saddler, taking over management of the Gachon house in St Pourçain sur Sioule. I started to manufacture the trotting and work harness. I started making my own saddles to offer them. I worked on leather goods on order.

 

In 1991, I created my workshop in the Paris region, in Savigny sur Orge. I have developed three models of saddles sold under the GPC brand "Guy Plisson marketing, Guy Chanel fabrication". Ten years later, I produced and marketed under my name "Guy Chanel". Since then, new saddle models have seen the light of day and my activity has diversified under the impulse of a clientele of individuals or professionals who are knowledgeable and demanding, lovers of a job well done.

 

Today, in addition to the saddlery work, I create and tailor custom leather goods by hand: handbags, briefcases, luggage, hunting items, wallet, card holders, belts, watch straps… I work with major designers and interior architects for the sheathing and the production of precious, unique, interior decoration objects: lamps, office supplies, desk pads, door handles and pulls, sheathed furniture, paneling , for fitting out private residences, yachts, hotels, etc. I use noble materials. I carefully choose the best leathers. I know the best sources and when I can, I favor French production in the service of quality.

 

I always remain faithful to the traditional techniques of saddlery and luxury leather goods that I combine with creativity for a flawless high-end service, serving a unique and exceptional product.
